Defense Secretary Robert Gates is a class act. We should be so proud. It takes a Kansan to show the world how to conduct itself.

It's been reported that Toyota's president didn't bow deeply enough in his first apology. Maybe he could use some pointers from our president.

Sarah Palin came to Kansas. Then came the slams. Democrats can't stand that she is so popular and draws the crowds. And guess what? No teleprompter.

All Palin knows how to do is criticize President Obama. She brings no solutions to the table. When is the right wing going to tire of the empty, hateful rhetoric and start expecting more from Republicans besides spin and obstructionism?

All that press coverage of the National Tea Party Convention with an attendance of 1,000. The 2008 National Square Dance Convention in Wichita had seven times that number. Some perspective, people.

It looks like businesses are jumping on the social networks for marketing. I think they will find it a two-edged sword. Social networks are just gossip, and gossip often turns on those who promote it.

To those who want to tax churches: Are you going to provide the many services and support — food banks, homeless shelters, etc. —that churches won't be able to provide if they have to pay taxes? Use your brain, if not your heart.

It is really great how the Wichita City Council listens to the public concerning the so-called WaterWalk. The public wanted a Bass Pro Shop and got Gander Mountain. The public wanted a Great Wolf Lodge and will get a Fairfield Inn. Nothing but first class for the residents of Wichita.

To those who claim the Black Eyed Peas are a first-rate act: The Black Eyed Peas are today's Milli Vanilli, without the musical integrity.

Michael Buble? Really? That guy couldn't sing his way out of the first round of "American Idol."

I leave my Christmas lights up year-round. I need them to find my way home after leaving the bars.

Just the other day I was going 80 mph in a school zone while texting my wife about how small the cheap seats are at Intrust Bank Arena when I saw a house with its Christmas lights still up and I thought, "There should be a federal law against this."
