Valentine's Day is coming and whether you have a special someone or not, it's a great day to wear red. After all, the color red is a stimulant that's supposed to stir up emotions. It's the hottest of the "warm" colors, and can mean danger, anger and passionate love. Red denotes joy and celebration and even purity in some cultures. It's the color of happiness and prosperity in China and is believed to attract good luck.
Even if red is an unusual color choice for you, Valentine's Day is a time to make an exception.
"It's always good to embrace a new color, especially for a special occasion or holiday," said Brooke Greene, owner of Pink Saloon, 4730 E. Douglas.
"Red is for romantic and that spells Valentine's Day to me," said Monica Smits, of Aspen Boutique.
Most women love the color red, she said, "but if they can't wear a whole top or dress in red, they'll usually go for accessories in red — earrings, necklace, handbag or gloves."
Not only is the color red a day brightener, it's a perennial color. Season after season, red returns in a wide array of shades. There's not a fashion season when it doesn't show up to some degree.
When Valentine's Day rolls around, don your red dress, blouse or accessories and, regardless of your destination, arrive pretending you're on the red carpet.
"Get some red in your life and let the romance begin!" Smits said.
