Cooking Light magazine recently released a list of items health-conscious diners could order at fast food restaurants and not expect to die of artery cloggage on the spot. In other words, they're the healthiest fast choices in a pinch. Among the items that made the list:
1. McDonald's Southwest salad with grilled chicken: The salad, which includes black beans, corn and cheese, contains 320 calories, 9 grams total fat (3 are saturated fat), and 30 grams of protein. A package of low-fat balsamic vinaigrette on top adds 40 calories.
2. Burger King's Tendergrill Chicken Sandwich: You'll have to ask them to hold the mayo, but if you do, you'll enjoy a meal that contains 380 calories, 9 grams of fat (2 are saturated), and 25 grams of protein. A side salad with fat-free ranch dressing adds 100 calories.
3. Taco Bell's Fresco grilled steak soft taco: This Mexi-treat contains 160 calories, 4.5 grams fat (1.5 grams saturated fat), and 9 grams of protein.
4. Subway's 6-inch roast beef sandwich on 9-Grain wheat bread: The sandwich has 310 calories, 5 grams of fat (2 grams saturated fat), and 26 grams of protein.
A GOOD DEAL
Customers at P.F. Chang's on Sunday, which is Super Bowl Sunday, will receive a $10 gift card for every $50 spent. The card can be used on a future visit.

Caramel chicken
Pei Wei at 2441 N. Maize Road has just added a new dish — caramel chicken, a sweet-and-spicy Vietnamese-inspired dish. The dish is wok-tossed in a tangy caramel-chile sauce with chicken and fresh pineapple then topped with an Asian slaw of cucumber, red bell pepper, carrots, red onion and chile peppers marinated in black pepper Asian vinaigrette. Pho Hot lunch specials
Pho Hot Bistro at 306 N. Rock Road has introduced a lunch menu that offers entrees for $6.95 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Diners also can add a salad of the day for $1.) Choices include several varieties of pho noodle soups, vermicelli noodle dishes, soft egg noodles, rice platters and vegetarian dishes. In all, the lunch menu includes 27 dishes and five salads.
