Cargill will invest $14 million to upgrade its soybean processing plant at 1401 N. Mosley, the company said today.

The plant stores, prepares, crushes and extracts oil from soybeans.

The project will improve the efficiencies and reliability of Cargill's service to its animal feeding and soybean customers, the company said.

The improvements are expected to be made in time for the 2010 soybean harvest.

The Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition said it has been working with Cargill on the project. Cargill might use tax-exempt Recovery Zone Facility Bonds from the state to help finance the project. It is working with the state, county and city on the bonds.

Cargill has 45 employees at the plant and more than 1,250 in Wichita.
