Doc Howard's moves in

Doc Howard's is the name of the latest business taking over the nightclub space at 252 N. Mosley (formerly occupied by Fuzion). It will open tonight, and owner Keith Shapiro says it will be a completely different business — nonsmoking and focused on attracting an older, professional crowd. It will feature a mix of dancing, DJs and live music. Shapiro hopes to introduce food after the first of the year. Doc Howard's will be open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays; 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturdays and 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesdays.

Kryptonite concert

Kryptonight Fight is the name of a benefit concert at 3 p.m. Sunday that will help raise money for Donnie Huslig, a local pancreatic cancer patient. The concert, at the 20th Century Center at 536 N. Broadway, will feature the six-man, Las Vegas-based vocal group Mosaic as well as Blaine Huslig & Friends and Blake Aaron Guthrie. Advance tickets are $15 or $10 for high school aged and younger. They're available at Select-a-Seat outlets, by calling 316-755-SEAT or by visiting www.selectaseat.com. Tickets are the door are $18, $13 for high school and younger.

Layer after layer

Infinite Layers, a band featuring Kim McLaurian, Martie Bowie, Jeff Stidham and Shawn Cail, will perform its special blend of jazz, R&B and funky dance hip-hop music from 8 to 10 p.m. tonight at Caffe Moderne, 300 N. Mead. Admission is free.

Calendar alert

Famous Kansas-bred musician Freedy Johnston will play a Christmas Day show at Blue Lounge promoting his soon-to-be-released album, "Rain on the City." He'll perform with Honky Tonk Devils. The show will start around 9:30 p.m., and admission is $5 at the door.

Cowboy Christmas Ball

Les Gilliam and his Silverlake Band will headline the sixth annual Cowboy Christmas Ball at the Quail Valley Fun Barn in Winfield. The show is at 7 p.m. Saturday. Doors open at 4 p.m., and appetizers will be served at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door and include food and drink. For reservations, call 620-221-0052 or 620-222-2154.
