WICHITA — A trial date has been set for a former day care owner who faces charges of driving children while she was intoxicated.

The trial for Margaret E. Self, 49, of Derby, is set for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 19, according to municipal court officials.

Self has entered a plea of not guilty on six charges related to an incident in October in which her day care employees said they suspected Self was drunk when she drove off with seven children. Employees said they tried to stop her and then called police.

No injuries were reported.

The day care, Creative Connections Learning Center, 11818 W. Central, had its license suspended by the health department the day Self was arrested.

Charges include driving under the influence, DUI resulting in child endangerment, no child restraint and no valid driver's license.

Self is charged with second-offense DUI because she was convicted of a DUI in February in Butler County. That incident didn't involve children, according to court records.
