WICHITA - A 19-year-old Wichita man was badly hurt early this morning when he lost control of his truck on I-235 and crashed just south of Central, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported.

Austin Breitenstein was driving south on I-235 shortly before 2 a.m. when his truck drifted off the road into the outside median, where he struck a light pole and a milepost sign.

He then overcorrected with the steering wheel, authorities said, causing the truck to roll several times before it came rest sideways across both southbound lanes.

He was not wearing a seatbelt. He was taken to Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus, where he remains in critical condition.
