To get around the need for city licenses to serve liquor and allow merchants to sell concert T-shirts and other souvenirs at Intrust Bank Arena, Sedgwick County commissioners today approved a resolution instituting home rule within the boundaries of the downtown venue.

The arena, set to open next month, still will have to have a state liquor license, which assistant county manager Ron Holt said already had been acquired.

The Wichita City Council will consider a resolution allowing the home rule next week, and if approved, the county will adopt the plan.

The setup will be similar to how the city treats Century II.
