Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.

This woman has unpaid medical bills. Her husband left her earlier this fall.

“My husband of nine years left two months ago, leaving me with all the bills, and no way to be sure of how to make sure that our kids were taken care of,” the woman wrote in her application.

The woman has three children, and one suffers from hemophilia, a blood clotting disorder. The woman said her son has spent his 14 years in and out of the hospital.

Her paycheck is garnished to pay medical bills. She receives $290 a week.

If the woman fails to pay her modified mortgage payment, her home will be foreclosed.

“I am not a person who would have ever thought I would have to ask for help, as I am usually the one who helps others,” she wrote. “My kids are my life, but the changes we are dealing with are taking a toll on them and me.”

Send contributions to Share the Season at the Wichita Community Foundation, 301 N. Main, Suite 100, Wichita, KS 67202.
