Can we expect a special session in Topeka to spend the taxes on the big lottery win? That money can't go unspent. We will put it down on something a lot bigger. We get what we vote for.

To the reader who asked, "Where is Walter Cronkite when you need him?": He's no longer with us, sadly, and neither is his example of integrity and accuracy in the news media, with only a few exceptions.

I would like to hear the president and all members of Congress recite the Pledge of Allegiance to hear if they support the "under God" in it.

Am I the only one who would welcome a restaurant built so cell phones wouldn't work inside?

I am about two-thirds of the way through Sarah Palin's book. I believe she has more common sense and intelligence than anyone we have coming out of Washington today.

KU coach Mark Mangino needs to be kept. Let's fire athletic director Lew Perkins for his unprofessional public witch-hunting, which will scare away recruits.

Watching college football, I've seen countless coaches yell at players. Should we fire them all?

Furloughs for government employees or anyone else just takes money out of recovery and decreases the tax base. That means less money circulating, so furloughs are self-defeating.

Where does the surcharge money go that is being tacked onto the ticket prices of events at Intrust Bank Arena? Isn't the arena paid for?

If I wanted to view the "walkable" downtown Wichita, I would need a time machine set for anytime prior to 1960. There's nothing there now.

It's tree butchering time in my neighborhood. It would be better to cut down some of the trees rather than leave them in such a horrific state.

If the city doesn't want leaves in the streets, why does it keep planting trees? Seems we are being set up for failure.

Articles such as "Gratitude may be good for your health" (Nov. 25 Eagle) are one of the main reasons I continue to subscribe to a daily newspaper. I'll give up a lot of other things before giving up the pleasure of leafing through the paper and finding words of interest and inspiration.

Kudos to B-98 FM for playing holiday music now. I hope it will continue until New Year's Day.
