Family of 8 needs money to fix roofBY BECCY TANNER

Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.
For some time now, the family has been getting by paycheck to paycheck.
It’s not easy with six children, ranging in age from 1 to 11.
“We usually make it . . . without any problems,” wrote the 35-year-old mother in her application to Share the Season.
But last month a large branch smashed through the roof of their house.
“We had to have an emergency repair, to keep more water from leaking in,” the mother wrote. “We have insurance but our deductible is $1,000 so it all has to be out of pocket.”
The roof is temporarily fixed — but it will have to have permanent repairs eventually.
This is the first time the family has ever asked for help. The father is working. The mother lost her job this past year when the grant money that funded it ran out.
“We have a very tiny house,” the mother said in an interview. “We don’t spend anything extra on anything. If we repair it now, that would take everything. If we charge it on our credit card, it’s money we don’t have funds to pay.”
The mother said the family relies on their income tax refund to help them get through the year.
