WICHITA - Four people escaped harm when their house caught fire this morning in north Wichita.
The fire was reported at 6:20 a.m. at 1945 N. Madison, Wichita Fire Lt. Darren Mullen said.
As the family was getting ready for their day, someone left cooking unattended on the stove and the grease caught fire, Mullen said. The two adults and two children were able to flee the house as the fire spread in the kitchen.
The fire caused about $25,000 in damage to the house and its contents, Mullen said.
"It will probably take quite a while to rebuild it" because of the extensive fire and smoke damage, Mullen said.
"It's another reminder to pay attention," he said.
