Nearly 1,300 Kansas farmers received almost $148 million in direct and guaranteed federal loans during the 2009 fiscal year.

Both were records for Kansas producers, according to Adrian Polansky, state executive director of the Farm Service Agency. Some of the funding was provided by the federal stimulus package, he said.

Polansky said 1,288 family farmers received loans totaling $147.68 million.

Of that total, 931 farmers received $88.6 million in federal loans for planting and harvesting crops, purchasing livestock and machinery, or reorganizing their businesses.
