2008-09 statistics for WSU; x-assists
Fairleigh Dickinson: The Knights opened the season with an 84-61 loss at No. 5 Villanova on Friday. Four Knights played 35 or more minutes, including reserve Kamil Svrdlik. . . . Mofunanya blocked six shots against Villanova. . . . Baptiste was named to the preseason All-Northeast Conference team. He averaged 16.3 points last season and scored 30 or more points four times. . . . FDU, located in Teaneck, N.J., is picked eighth in the NEC. Interim coach Greg Vetrone was elevated from assistant in June after FDU fired Tom Green after 26 seasons and a 7-23 record in 2009.
Wichita State: Marshall said he is debating one spot in his starting lineup. Kyles started against Newman in the exhibition game and may do so again today. Or he may go with freshman Demetric Williams. . . . Marshall said freshmen guards Tyler Richardson and Kenny Manigault remain redshirt candidates, although it is possible neither will sit out this season. . . . The Shockers scored 81 points in their exhibition game, even without leading returning scorer Clevin Hannah. Murry thinks WSU will be a better offensive team than the one that averaged 62.9 points last season. "We're starting to understand how to play together," he said. "We know how to score now. Last year we had droughts. I think everybody understands what their strong points are, what they do and what coaches want." . . . WSU has won seven straight season openers and 13 straight home openers. . . . This game is part of the CBE Classic. WSU plays NCAA Division II Arkansas-Monticello on Wednesday. It faces Pittsburgh on Monday in Kansas City and either No. 3 Texas or Iowa on Tuesday.
