Figure skating

Canadian pair Meagan Duhamel and Craig Buntin withdrew from Skate America on Saturday in Lake Placid, N.Y., when she fell hard to the ice and reinjured her right leg. Duhamel landed on her shoulder, then banged her head on the ice on a throw triple loop. Buntin immediately skated over and helped her to her feet and she was wobbly as she went to the sideboards.

Golf

Gregory Bourdy of France shot a bogey-free 7-under 63 on Saturday to take the lead heading into the final round of the $2.5 million Hong Kong Open. Robert-Jan Derksen of the Netherlands was the only one of the three other overnight leaders to keep pace with Bourdy, shooting a 5 under to stay within two strokes after the third round.

* George McNeill closed with a double-bogey, allowing three others to share the lead heading into the final round of the Children's Miracle Network Classic at Disney World. Justin Leonard, Justin Rose and Mathias Gronberg were also tied atop the leaderboard.

Soccer

In its first warmup match for next year's World Cup, the United States was missing key starters and lacked sharpness in a 1-0 loss to host Slovakia. Marek Hamsik converted a penalty kick in the 26th minute after Austrian referee Stefan Messner called defender Jonathan Bornstein for pushing Vladimir Weiss — the son of Slovakia's coach — in the penalty area. Hamsik sent a low shot to the right corner, with goalkeeper Brad Guzan diving in the opposite direction.

* Diego Maradona faces a FIFA disciplinary panel today in Zurich that could ban the Argentine coach from games at next year's World Cup because of his expletive-filled rant. His outburst, aimed at the Argentine media, came during a news conference last month after his team clinched a spot in the World Cup in South Africa. Under one provision of FIFA's discipline code, the panel must ban Maradona for at least five games if it finds he offended the "dignity of a person or group of persons through contemptuous, discriminatory or denigratory words."

SWIMMING

Michael Phelps finished fifth in the 200-meter butterfly final at a short-course World Cup meet in Berlin. Nikolay Skvortsov of Russia, who had the fastest qualifying time, won the final in 1:50.58. Phelps is competing in an old-style swimsuit that will become the standard Jan. 1.

Skiing

Maria Riesch of Germany won the opening women's World Cup slalom Saturday, edging Lindsey Vonn of the United States by 0.08 seconds. Riesch, the defending world slalom champion, finished with a two-run time of 1 minute, 48.71 seconds on the Black Course in Levi, Finland.

Tennis

Novak Djokovic reached the final of the Paris Masters for the first time by overpowering Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-3. The 22-year-old Serb will face Gael Monfils of France today. He advanced to the final with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win over Radek Stepanek.
