So "our nation has seen God do marvelous things"? Do you mean like killing off most of the Native Americans and forcing the rest to live in squalor?

Our nation was not "founded by a small band of Christians." Do some research and you'll see there were a lot of Deists in that group. Deists believe in God but not in Jesus. Therefore, they are not considered Christians.

President Obama wasn't being cautious about Fort Hood because of his or Nidal Hasan's surname. He was cautious in the same way America was cautious not to condemn people with Western surnames because of Timothy McVeigh, Terry Nichols, Lee Harvey Oswald, James Earl Ray and John Hinckley.

Regarding a comment jeering "the veterans who had the nerve to display American flags on their Japanese motorcycles" in the veterans parade: The Japanese workers building motorcycles today are not the same people who bombed Pearl Harbor. Get over yourself.

I agree that the Vickridge signs are too much. They removed the tasteful old stone markers and replaced them with huge monuments. In this economy, with so many people struggling, it seems in very poor taste.

Thank you, Wichita Eagle, for the article on historian Ron Pastore taking a fresh look at the death of Jesse James (Nov. 9 Local & State). I watched the documentary on the History Channel. It makes you think about what really happened. I think I may also want to buy a metal detector.
