EL DORADO — A 25-year-old Augusta man will stand trial in the shooting death of a 14-year-old girl last month.

Butler County District Judge Charles Hart ruled this afternoon that the state showed enough evidence during Morgan Jarvi's preliminary hearing for the case to proceed to trial.

Jarvi is accused of second-degree murder. The law describes the charge as the unintentional killing during a reckless act "under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life."

He pleaded not guilty, and Hart set trial for March 30.

Andrea Young was shot and killed during a party at Jarvi's house where teenagers had been drinking.

Several of the teens said Jarvi had been walking around the house that night carrying an AK47 and a 9mm handgun.

Some of the girls testified they were scared. Two said they asked him to put the guns away. The girls said Jarvi had been drinking.

Police said Young was killed by a shot from the 9mm, when the bullet pierced a column and hit her as she stood in the kitchen by stairs to the basement.
