Wichita State women's basketball coach Jody Adams knew precisely what she needed in this recruiting class.

She got it. WSU announced the signing of four high school players on Thursday. After concentrating on the best available players last year, Adams went after a point guard and a center.

"This year we were able to be more precise," she said. "We were able to prioritize our needs. We added depth."

Point guard Krystle Henderson (5-foot-5) of Dallas Skyline, center Shannika Bryant (6-4) of St. Joseph High in Chicago, forward Kelsey Jacobs (5-11) of Fortuna (Calif.) High and guard BreAnna Dawkins (5-6) of Dallas Cedar Hill will join the Shockers for the 2010-11 season.

Henderson averaged 16.2 points and 2.8 assists as a junior. She was named an All-Class 5A selection by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. Bryant averaged 10 points and 7.7 rebounds last season.

Jacobs averaged 14 points and 12 rebounds as a junior. No statistics were available for Dawkins, who played for a team that went 25-7 last season.

"BreAnna is a combo guard," Adams said. "She's a natural playmaker and has range from three. She can create and finish."

Adams said she won't sign anyone else during the fall signing period. She will look for another big player and a guard in the spring period.

Baseball all in — All seven oral commitments for the WSU baseball team signed.

The class includes Roff (Okla.) infielder Dayne Parker, Choctaw (Okla.) infielder Josh Halbert, pitchers Kris Gardner of Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano, Texas, Cale Elam of Oktaha, Okla., Zach Beringer of Harrisburg, Mo. and Albert Minnis of Lawrence and catcher Bob Arens of Northwest High.

Two golfers — Edmond (Okla.) Santa Fe's Matt Helms and Calvin Pearson of South Africa signed with WSU's men's golf team.

Pearson, from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, played for the South African under-18 national team.

Softball additions — WSU's softball team signed pitcher Sloan Anderson of Glencoe (Ore.) High, utility player Torrie Brown of Edmond (Okla.) Memorial and infielder Rachel Milnark of Lansing. Milnark hit .559 for Lansing and is a three-time All-Class 5A selection.
