Several schools run by the Wichita Catholic Diocese received "standard of excellence" awards from the state.
The award requires a certain percentage of students to score higher than passing on state assessments. The Catholic school students take the same standardized test that public school students are required to take in the spring.
Private schools aren't required to participate in state assessments, but some do to maintain types of national accreditation.
