This is the sixth year for All-Metro teams selected by The Eagle, recognizing the best high school athletes in team sports throughout Sedgwick, Butler and Harvey counties.
The selection process
In October, Eagle high school beat writers Joanna Chadwick and Jonathan Long sent nomination ballots to all boys soccer coaches at the 38 high schools in Sedgwick, Butler and Harvey counties.
Coaches were asked to return the ballots with nominations of the best players within those counties that they saw this season, including their own players.
The team was selected by Long after tabulating nominations, his own evaluation of players and additional input from coaches and other media members.
All-league teams
Along with the All-Metro team, The Eagle will publish all-league teams for the counties' major leagues: the City League and Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League.
Josh Aubuchon
Rose Hill
Senior forward
Aubuchon's versatility helped solidify Rose Hill's high-powered offense. He scored 23 goals and had 14 assists for the Rockets, the third-place finishers in Class 4-1A.
Logan Benning
Kapaun Mount Carmel
Senior defender
Benning's aggressive style was one of the few consistencies for the Crusaders. A two-time All-Metro selection, he played a vital role in Alan Shepherd's first year back with the Crusader boys team.
Regan Billings
Wichita Trinity
Sophomore midfielder
An asset as a forward and midfielder, Billings was Trinity's main scoring threat. Billings scored 16 goals and added five assists.
Oliver Bradwell
East
Senior forward
Bradwell was one of the most athletic forwards in the City League. With a background in track, Bradwell used that speed to score 15 goals and added eight assists.
Ramsey Khalidi
Rose Hill
Senior forward
Khalidi was one of the most feared goal scorers in the area. He led the AV-CTL with 29 goals and also had eight assists. His speed and ability to strike at anytime helped Rose Hill to a third-place finish in Class 4-1A.
Manny Miranda
Southeast
Senior defender
Miranda was one of the best one-on-one defenders in the City League. His aggressive style and ability to handle the ball helped guide Southeast to eight shutouts.
Bryton Quick
Maize
Junior defender
Quick's speed and knowledge of the game helped shut down opposing scorers. Quick led the Maize defense to eight shutouts while holding opponents to 14 goals all season. This is his second consecutive All-Metro selection.
Gary Rodriguez
East
Senior goalkeeper
Rodriguez led East with a 0.84 goals against average and 86 saves. He had 26 saves against Washburn Rural in the state quarterfinal game.
Jordan Saybounkham
Southeast
Senior defender
A two-time All-Metro selection, Saybounkham played a big part on offense and defense. Taking most of Southeast's free kicks, he scored three goals and had two assists. His ability to clear the ball from any angle made him the anchor of the defense.
Jonson Shaad
Maize
Senior forward
Shaad's ability to score with either foot helped lead Maize to a 17-2 record. He finished with 20 goals and 12 assists as Maize averaged four goals and was never shut out.
Ari Velasquez
Heights
Junior midfielder
Velasquez was one of the most skillful ball-handlers in the City League. His ability to distribute and control the midfield was pivotal in the Heights attack. He finished with six goals and 10 assists.
Scott Jantzi
Newton
Coach
After going 47-41 in Jantzi's first five seasons, Newton was 18-3 this season, 5-0 in AV-CTL Division II. Jantzi and the Railers were one game away from the state semifinals, losing to Emporia 2-1 in double overtime.
