First snow on the way?

Wichita could see its first snow of winter this weekend — even if it's only a few flakes.

But anything that sticks around past Monday morning won't last long, forecasters say, as another warming trend is expected next week.

In fact, forecast models indicate the Wichita area will enjoy a warm and dry Thanksgiving.

"It's looking like above-normal temperatures for the end of the month," said Brad Ketcham, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Wichita. "They're not really forecasting anything major precipitation-wise, either."

The area's average high in late November is about 50.

A storm front is expected to move from the southwestern United States into Kansas late Sunday night and Monday.

"We're going to have some precipitation around," Ketcham said. "The real question is what kind. We're trying to figure that out.

"Whether it's going to be cool enough for the white stuff to fall is the real question."

Points east of Wichita appear more likely to receive measurable snow, he said, but light snow is also possible in the metropolitan area.

Forecasters at WeatherData, a Wichita-based subsidiary of AccuWeather, "don't think it will amount to much," CEO Mike Smith said.

A warming trend will begin by the middle of next week and persist for an extended period, Ketcham said.
