HEATHER CLAY

  • Published Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at 12:07 a.m.

Clay has worked as a college fundraiser and for health-related organizations. Last month, the Andover High School graduate started a job that ties those experiences together.

"What I did before was a great precursor — to get terrific experience with loyal alumni," said Clay, who was on Southwestern College's institutional development staff. "Here, we've got a great base of supporters and alumni who have graduated from the KU School of Medicine and stayed here to practice.

"We also work with local organizations and other foundations that are providing terrific support for us."

Clay joined the KU School of Medicine just months after David Wilson's arrival as the school's new dean. Wilson plans to grow the Wichita program into a four-year medical school (it currently serves third- and fourth-year medical students). Construction has also begun to make room for the KU School of Pharmacy, which will admit students in the fall of 2011.

"He has amazing vision and an amazing plan," Clay said. "He wants to make it a prominent place in Wichita and a source of pride for citizens."
