WICHITA — The city will stop accepting applications for the rapid re-housing program at 5 p.m. today because it may already have more applicants than it has funds for, the city announced this afternoon.

The program was created as part of the federal stimulus program. It offers rent and utility bill money for up to 18 months to people who are homeless or who are about to become homeless.

The program started Monday, and more than 200 people called to start the application process.

The city estimates the $1.2 million it received will be enough to assist about 275 people, though it may re-open the application process if funds remain.

To apply, call 211 before 5 p.m. today.
