A Wichita middle school teacher was charged Monday in northern Oklahoma with possession of drugs, Blackwell police said.
Clell Aven Posey was arrested Saturday and charged Monday with delivery of marijuana and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, said Sgt. John Mitchell of the Blackwell Police Department.
Posey has worked for the Wichita district since 1977, most recently at Arkansas Avenue/Gateway Alternative School. Arkansas Avenue specializes in teaching children who " have history of poor behavioral choices," according to the district web site.
Posey was placed on administrative leave with pay Monday morning, when police told district officials of his arrest and a search of his house, district spokeswoman Wendy Johnson said.
She said there's no indication any illegal activities took place on school grounds. The district will wait for results of the police investigation before deciding whether to conduct its own investigation, Johnson said.
Posey's bond was set at $50,000 during his arraignment in Kay County District Court.
Mitchell and Detective Jay Brewer said the arrests of Posey and Mark Anthony Short of Blackwell followed a nine-month investigation into a drug distribution network.
Posey had nearly a pound of marijuana, a large amount of cocaine and more than $400 in cash when he was arrested at I-35 and U.S. 177 in Braman, Okla., Blackwell police said.
A subsequent search of Posey's home by Wichita police turned up 17 firearms, more than one pound of marijuana, methamphetamine and $1,700 dollars in cash.
Police said that during the investigation they learned that drugs were coming into the Blackwell area from Wichita.
Friday night, Blackwell police arrested Short and seized $900, two firearms and marijuana.
More arrests are possible as the investigation continues, Blackwell police said.
