A 53-year-old Minnesota man was killed when he was struck by a car as he was walking down a Harvey County road late Thursday night, authorities said.
Bradley A. Wendt of Redwood Falls, Minn., was walking north along an inside lane of the 9300 block of South Kansas Avenue when he was struck by a Newton man driving north in a Ford Focus at 10:45 p.m., Harvey County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Mark Hardtarfer said.
The driver attempted to avoid Wendt, but he struck him with the passenger side of his car, Hardtarfer said.
A preliminary investigation indicates a possible medical condition may explain why Wendt was walking in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol does not appear to have played a role in the incident, Hardtarfer said.
