I'm grateful that The Eagle is a McClatchy newspaper, especially given the investigative journalism regarding Goldman Sachs. Maybe now readers can understand why President Obama is doing what has to be done.
* * *
One year down, three to go, until we can get change that we can believe in.
* * *
We do not "own" President Obama. We did not buy him. He was elected to be our president. He has the same rights as we do but also has a 24/7 job, which he is handling better than any other president I've known in my 77 years.
* * *
When George W. Bush went on vacation, he took work with him. Obama does nothing but goof off.
* * *
Is there anyone out there who is capable of having an original thought anymore? It's all the same old nonsense, day after day. I am talking to Republicans and Democrats.
* * *
Conservatives encourage disrespect to the president and the presidency. We are witnessing an erosion of decency.
* * *
How many more times are we going to hear that a child's death was "preventable"? Come on, relatives, friends, neighbors, society — do your part by reporting and staying on top of child abuse signs. A child dying from abuse should never happen.

On this city-county pay gap: Maybe we could just lower the pay for the Sedgwick County commissioners. We pay way too much for local government.
* * *
Give it up, arena opponents. The Intrust Bank Arena is built, and events are coming. Stop your endless bellyaching and allow the rest of us to enjoy it. If you don't want to go there, do us all a favor and don't.
* * *
Please tell me that Wichita Thunder hockey will not go to the new downtown arena. Doesn't the team embarrass us enough at the Kansas Coliseum?
* * *
The Shriners and the Wichita Toy Run have so much in common. They're nothing but big attention-getters.
* * *
It was impressive to see all of the honest and caring people at the Toy Run. Wouldn't it be something to get tens of thousands of bikers to head to Washington, D.C., to make a statement that we want our country back? Give politicians six months to cut taxes, create high-paying jobs and get out of our lives.

They say it takes all kinds. Although we have "all kinds," I am certain we don't need them all.
