Step out on Halloween

Bars and clubs in the Wichita area are getting into the spirit of Halloween this weekend with costume contests, decorations, drink specials and more.

Here's a look at what some nightspots are doing. Events are Saturday night unless otherwise noted:

* Champs, 1106 S. Seneca: Costume party Friday and Saturday with cash prizes.

* Charter Country, 1107 W. Harry: Costume party with cash prizes and drink specials.

* Firkin and Bull, 2441 N. Maize Road: Drink and food specials.

* Fox & Hound, 1421 Waterfront Parkway: Costume contest with $200 top prize, DJ, drink specials.

* Harry Reese Dance Studio, 1628 George Washington Blvd.: Costume party, prizes, live music, and dance, 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets $8-$10.

* Heroes Sports Bar, 117 N. Mosley: Costume contest.

* Highlands Gastropub & Cardroom, 3731 N. Rock Road: Costume contest, 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Free admission.

* The Horn, 1255 S. Tyler Road: A costume contest with three categories — scariest, sexiest and most original — plus drink specials and music by The Source.

* Jerry's, 630 N. Robin: Drink specials and music by Second Nature.

* Larry Bud's, 2120 N. Woodlawn: Costume contest, karaoke and drink specials.

* Madrocks Sports Bar, 1821 E. Madison in Derby: DJ, karaoke, drink specials, costume contest.

* Mort's, 923 E. First St.: Giveaways for people in costumes, drink specials.

* Oeno, 330 N. Mead: HallowOeno party with a runway show by House of Hair at 8 p.m., drink specials, costume contest at 10. Doors open at 4.

* Paul's Place, 767 N. West St.: Halloween party with live music and stage show by Dead Friend Walking beginning at 9:30; appearance by T-95 radio personalities at 8 p.m.; drink specials and costume contest.

* The Shadow, 550 N. Rock Road: "Fangtasia" party featuring costume contests Friday and Saturday. Prizes include a trip to Las Vegas for the costume best depicting a celebrity who died this year.

* The Stadium, 620 Maple: Costume contest with $100 prize for first, $50 for second and $25 for third; drink specials, free chili dogs and karaoke.

* The Triangle, 2003 S. Washington: Costume contest and live band.

On Sunday

American Legion Post No. 401, 101 E. 31st St. South: Costume party and singles dance mixer, 7 p.m. Admission $5.
