WICHITA — More than two dozen motorists were ticketed during a "Cops on Rails" operation Wednesday in Wichita.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office teamed up with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and the Kansas Highway Patrol on the project from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Officers rode on trains and radioed other law enforcement officers when they spotted motorists committing violations.

A total of 30 drivers were cited, including 25 for violating rail crossing statutes. Violators can be fined $180 plus $88 in court costs.
