There's a lot happening every weekend, too much for just one column. And some times, a man just can't be limited by space.

* Kansas coach Mark Mangino obviously doesn't trust his defense, and who can blame him?
Why else would the Jayhawks not have attempted a field goal late in Saturday's 34-30 loss at Colorado, making it a one-point deficit with enough time to stop the Buffaloes, get the ball back, drive down the field and kick another one to win?
One of the important keys to being a great football team is being a well-rounded football team. Kansas has lost its way defensively and forced Mangino to put too many games in the hands of quarterback Todd Reesing and the offense.
It's clouding the coach's judgment.
Many times, Reesing and his receiving corps come through. But not against Colorado when it counted most.
That's a devastating defeat for KU and, along with Nebraska's home loss to Texas Tech, throws the Big 12 North into disarray.
Kansas State atop the division standings?
More than ever, college football is a week-by-week adventure. You can't bank on anything.
Kansas could easily turn around and beat Oklahoma in Lawrence on Saturday. And K-State, incredibly, could improve to 3-1 in the Big 12 with a home win over Colorado.
* A caller to our radio show, "Sports Daily," proclaimed Monday that McPherson College, a 5-1 football team in the KCAC, could beat Kansas State.
What a ridiculous notion.
Now, if he had said McPherson could beat the Washington Redskins. . . that's a possibility.
* While you're watching the amazing antics of New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez in the baseball playoffs, remember that he's a cheater.
Please.
Same with Manny Ramirez of the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.
* I wonder about a guy like Dante Wesley, the Carolina Panthers' special teams player who put a horrific hit on Tampa Bay's Clifton Smith as he was waiting to field a punt during Sunday's game.
Wesley has no reputation as a dirty player, from what I've read. He's been in the league a while now since coming out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
So what made him lower his shoulder and drive his body into the upper body/chin area of Smith?
Wesley said he mis-timed his hit, getting to Smith before the ball. But the contact looked intentional to me and way over the top.
It sparked a near-brawl and Smith, who suffered a concussion, was unable to talk after the game.
Wesley's hit was unnecessary and hopefully will be punished harshly.
* I made it through another WNBA season without watching a game. That's not gloating, it's just stating a fact. The league simply hasn't come on to my radar.
Having said that, I applaud Tulsa for reportedly swinging a deal to bring in a WNBA franchise for the 2010 season. The Detroit Shock, which has won a few titles, apparently is moving into the BOK Arena next season.
The WNBA draws decent crowds in some markets but has been unable to attract much of a television audience.
I know this: If the WNBA announced it was moving a franchise to Wichita and the Intrust Bank Arena, I would instantly be a lot more interested in the league.
Tulsa being able to lure a WNBA team is another example of how building an arena is great, but finding ways to put crowds in the arena is what ultimately determines its success or failure.

Five worst NFL teams _ 5. Detroit; 4. Tampa Bay; 3. Cleveland; 2. Washington; 1. St. Louis. (Note: I did not include the Tennessee Titans because I cannot understand how a team can go from 13-3 and playing in the AFC championship game to 0-6 and giving up 59 points in the snow. Did you know that Tennessee allowed only seven touchdowns in its first six games last season and gave up eight in 36 minutes Sunday against New England? Until I make some sense of this, Tennessee is not yet eligible for the LOL.)

* How often do you think Colt McCoy and Sam Bradford re-think their decisions to return to play quarterback at Texas and Oklahoma?
The over/under is 100 times a day. And I'll take the over.
* Baseball season will end soon. At least I think it will.
I just hope the World Series isn't snowed out. But if it's a Yankees-Phillies showdown, how long might it take to get in potentially seven games in the weather that is sure to plague such a Series?
The over/under is 12 days.
* Cincinnati, TCU, Boise State and Iowa could make for a lot of trouble in the BCS if they continue to win. I'm pulling for all, although I think it'll be Alabama against Texas in the BCS championship game.
