More than 4,000 people are expected to descend on the College Hill neighborhood this Halloween night for candy and spooky sights.

To make sure children and their parents are safe, city officials announced Monday that they will provide security assistance for the decades-old annual party.

Wichita police officers will be stationed in the neighborhood from 7 to 11 p.m. The department will run a "missing child reunion point" at Broadview and First Street. Parents are encouraged to tell children of the location before they begin trick-or-treating so they will know where to go if they become lost or separated from an adult.

"A lot of things we have been trying to do the last couple of years is be more pro-active," said John D'Angelo, director of the city's Arts and Culture Department. "We want to ensure these children's safety."

The event will run from 5 to 11 p.m. Fountain and Belmont streets will be closed from Douglas to First Street. Broadview will be closed from Douglas to Second Street. No through traffic will be allowed; only residents will be allowed to enter and exit the area in cars.

Security for the event will cost roughly $800. The Wichita Arts Council helped collect money through fundraisers.

Less than $350 still needs to be raised to cover all expenses for the event, D'Angelo said. People interested in making a donation can do so by sending it to the Arts Council, 334 N. Mead, Wichita, KS 67202.
