Ninth-grader Alexis Thompson shot a 3-under 69 on Friday for a share of the lead with top-ranked Lorena Ochoa and three others after the second round of the Navistar LPGA Classic in Prattville, Ala.

The 14-year-old Thompson, from Coral Springs, Fla., is trying to become youngest winner in LPGA Tour history. Marlene Hagge won the 1952 Sarasota Open 14 days after her 18th birthday.

* Tom Watson shot a bogey-free 68 in windy conditions to take a two-stroke lead at the halfway point of the Senior Players Championship in Timonium, Md., the last of the Champions Tour's five major tournaments.

* Vaughn Taylor shot his second straight 5-under 67 to take a one-stroke lead over three players after another cold, wet and somewhat windy day at Turning Stone Resort Championship in Verona, N.Y.

* Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy birdied the last two holes on the Old Course at St. Andrews for a 7-under 65 and a share of the second-round lead with Michael Hoey and Scotland's Richie Ramsay in the Dunhill Links Championship at St. Andrew's, Scotland.

FOOTBALL

Coach Chip Kelly says running back LeGarrette Blount could be reinstated to Oregon's football team this season. Kelly announced that there is "potential opportunity" for the senior running back to play for the No. 16 Ducks before the end of this season. He gave no timetable. Blount was suspended for punching Boise State's Byron Hout in the aftermath of Oregon's 19-8 season opening loss to the Broncos. Blount's suspension banned him from games, but he was allowed to remain on scholarship and practice with the team.

BASEBALL

A new book by a former employee of Alcor, the Arizona-based company that froze Ted Williams' remains, alleges the baseball Hall of Famer's body was mistreated by the company.

Larry Johnson says in the book "Frozen" that he watched an Alcor official swing a monkey wrench at Williams' frozen severed head to try to remove a tuna can stuck to it. The first swing accidentally struck the head dead-on, Johnson contends, and the second knocked the tuna can loose.

CELEBRITIES

Just 15 months after they were married, golf star Greg Norman and tennis great Chris Evert announced they have separated. The couple married last June in the Bahamas.

SOCCER

The No. 19 Kansas women's team fell to No. 15 Texas A&M 4-3 in College Station, Texas, after going down 2-0 early. Estelle Johnson, Caitlin Noble and Shelby Williamson scored for the Jayhawks.

* The Newman women's team picked up a Heartland Conference win with a 2-0 shutout of St. Mary's in Wichita. Heather Baloga and Lauren Wilson scored goals for the Jets.

VOLLEYBALL

All-American Destinee Hooker led No. 2 Texas with 15 kills as the Longhorns swept Kansas State 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 in Manhattan. Texas improved to 6-0 in Big 12 play with the win and the Wildcats dropped to 0-4.
