Man killed, woman injured in motorcycle crash near Cassoday

A 63-year-old Melvern man was killed and his wife serious injured in a motorcycle crash today in Butler County, authorities said.

James R. Lacey was killed in the crash, which occurred at about 10:15 a.m. near Cassoday, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Authorities identified the woman as 62-year-old Joyce Lacey.

According to the patrol, the Laceys were on a motorcycle that was going south on U.S. 177 about one mile north of Cassoday. The motorcycle went through a curve, left the west side of the road, struck a sign post and then overturned, the patrol said.

Joyce Lacey was taken to Wesley Medical Center, where she was listed in serious condition this afternoon.
