Three bites of sandwich news from Planet Sub

Comments (0)

The sandwich shop, with Wichita stores at 3526 N. Rock Road and 11333 E. Kellogg, has introduced a couple of new sandwiches and a special sandwich offer. The details:

1. BBQ Brisket: This tasty sandwich, which will remain on the menu for several weeks, is made with thin sliced brisket, bacon, melty cheddar cheese and barbecue sauce.

2. Italian beef: The highlight of this sandwich, made with thin shaved roast beef and provolone cheese, is the giardiniera — a spicy grilled pepper mixture that dresses the sandwich. It's served with a side of au jus and also will be available for several weeks.

3. A Royals deal: Planet Sub is offering customers $2 6-inch turkey subs on the day after a Kansas City Royals baseball win.

QUICK BITES

Sandwiches and cinnamon rolls

A combination Schlotzsky's Deli/Cinnabon store is going into the building that used to house Taco Bueno on the northeast corner of Central and Tyler. Wichita has three other Schlotzsky's — at 1334 W. Pawnee, 6507 E. Central and 1140 S. Rock Road. The deli specializes in sandwiches made on toasted sourdough bread. Cinnabon is a cinnamon roll purveyor popular in airports. The store should open in mid-September.

West-side hookah

Mediterranean Hookah Cafe is a new business at 2360 N. Maize Road (across the street from NewMarket Square) that serves a full line of coffee drinks as well as Mediterranean sandwiches and also offers hookah smoking, a Middle Eastern custom of smoking tobacco through a traditional water pipe. The cafe is open from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Starting in the next couple of weeks, it will also be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. The cafe is owned by Issa Ishkukani, his brother and his brother-in-law — the same trio behind The Bean Scene at 8606 W. 13th St. Call 316-927-2757 for more information.

Eating for a cause

Carrabba's at 3409 N. Rock Road is putting on a fundraising event Thursday for the Muscular Dystrophy Association that will introduce special new cocktails and menu items. It's $15 a person and lasts from 5 p.m. to close. The ticket includes a sampling of four new food items and one of the restaurant's new signature cocktails. For more information, call 316-315-0777.
