"Black in America"

Soledad O'Brien returns to host this two-part follow-up to last summer's critically acclaimed documentary probing the sensitive issue of the role that race plays in the lives of black Americans. The principal difference? The presence of a black man in the White House. Part two airs Thursday. 7 and 10 p.m., CNN, Channel 25.

"Over a Barrel: The Truth About Oil"

ABC News' Charles Gibson travels America to uncover secrets about the oil business, including how it works, who makes money and how its fluctuating prices affect average Americans. Gibson interviews Energy Secretary Steven Chu, who admits, "We're heading for a train wreck," and Gen. Wesley Clark, a proponent of ethanol. 9 p.m., ABC and KAKE, Channel 10.

Documentary series

"Wide Angle"

An Ethiopian economist sets up her country's first commodities exchange, hoping to revolutionize Ethiopia's market system and end its food shortages. Unfortunately, she hadn't counted on the disastrous collapse of the global financial market. Aaron Brown hosts the new documentary "The Market Maker." 9 p.m., PBS and KPTS, Channel 8.

Movie

"The Bridge on the River Kwai"

David Lean's classic 1957 version of the Pierre Boulle novel earned seven Oscars, including best picture and director. Alec Guinness was named best actor for his portrayal of a British colonel leading fellow prisoners of war in building a railroad bridge for the Japanese. An American officer (William Holden) schemes to destroy it. 9 p.m., TCM, Channel 65.
