Cartoon series

"SpongeBob SquarePants"

Now in its 10th season, the goofy saga of a sea sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea might sound like the kind of project that was hatched under the influence of questionable substances. Actually, the kid-friendly animated hit was created by Steven Hillenburg, an artist, animator and former marine biologist. 7 p.m., Nickelodeon, Channel 46.

Reality show

"The Chopping Block"

The remaining teams are asked to cater an event inspired by a visit to an art gallery for New York Daily News food critic Danyelle Freeman and uptown socialites. Then they return to their restaurants and find them completely torn down. 7 p.m., NBC and KSNW, Channel 3.

Movie

"The 40-Year-Old Virgin"

Steve Carell stars in this comedy about a man whose experience with physical intimacy has been limited, to put it mildly. His pals try to help him catch up, but he has ideas of his own, especially when he meets an appealing single mother (Catherine Keener). 7 p.m., USA, Channel 28.

Sports

MLB Baseball

Tampa Bay Rays at Kansas City Royals. 7 and 11 p.m., FSN, Channel 34.
