Heavy overnight rains south of Wichita have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flood warning for Sumner County until 1:30 p.m. today.

The area most prone to flooding will be south of a line from Mayfield to Portland, which is southwest of Wellington. Local law enforcement officials have reported water over U.S. 81 south of Wellington.

Nearly 3 inches of rain fell in the center of Sumner County early this morning, a weather service meteorologist said. That prompted the flood warning.
