Our hottest July 4 >
Our state has seen plenty of heat on the Fourth of July. No, we're not talking about standing by the barbecue grill or lighting fireworks. In 1980, Russell established a record high of 111 degrees, while down the road in Salina, the temperature hit 109. For our state's capital, their record on the July 4 is 110, set back in another sizzling year: 1936. Concordia soared to 108 in 1934 and Chanute reached 106 in 1911. Tomorrow, we'll look at weather extremes in Wichita on the Fourth of July.
