Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives. For recent You Oughta Know columns, go to www.kansas.com/oughta.

The record: The calendars for the Kansas House and Senate.

Why you'd want them: To keep up with what legislators are doing in Topeka and to follow any bills in which you may be interested.

Where you get the records: From the Legislature's Web site, www.kslegislature.org. Click on the calendar links under "Current Happenings."

How much it will cost: The information is free.
