Greensburg banks to reopen soon

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is expected to issue an executive order expediting the reopening of Greensburg's three banks, state Banking Commissioner Tom Thull said today.

The banks -- Greensburg State, Centera and Peoples -- were heavily damaged or destroyed by Friday's tornado. Sebelius' order would shorten the time needed for the state to approve a new bank or branch location.

Peoples and Centera have branches in nearby communities that Greensburg customers can use in the meantime. Thull said employees of Greensburg State were at the bank's site Monday dealing with customers.
