Baby born in QT parking lot in south Wichita

Comments (0)

A 31-year-old woman gave birth to a baby in a Wichita convenience store parking lot Monday afternoon.

Chris House, district captain for Sedgwick County Emergency Medical Services, said the woman's husband called 911 at about 4:17 p.m., saying her water had broken on their way to the hospital.

By the time an ambulance arrived at the QuikTrip at Harry and Webb Road, the baby had been born, House said.

"We cut the cord and clamped it and warmed the baby up," House said. "The baby wasn't doing well at first, but once we warmed it up it improved a lot."

The mother and baby were stabilized and taken to Via Christi Regional Medical Center.
