The city's planning department has recommended denying a Wichita church's zoning request that would allow a preschool to build on the church's property.
DEAR REV. GRAHAM: I'd like to be a good father, but my ex-wife has our three children most of the time and it seems like all I do is entertain them when they do visit. Do you have any suggestions? --G.R.
The Rev. John McLaughlin never served in the military, but he's faced unexpected, violent death in the way troops do. Decades ago, McLaughlin lay bleeding on a Boston street after being stabbed from behind. The prayer-filled moments that followed, when McLaughlin believed he might die, changed his life and ultimately led him to God. Now, in a newly created job, he'll be trying to recruit military personnel to the Roman Catholic priesthood.
Abraham Arevalo, Junius Dotson and Bruce Thomas all have the title of "pastor." But each also carries a title they say has even more significance to them: "father." The three church leaders are among many pastor-dads in the Wichita area.
