Bombardier looks at Mo. for plant

The top executive of Bombardier Aerospace was in Kansas City, Mo., on Wednesday to scout a site for his company's potential aircraft assembly plant, while Missouri lawmakers continued to wrangle over incentives.

Pierre Beaudoin, chief executive of the Montreal-based company, visited the location at Kansas City International Airport where development officials hope his company will build a 1.3 million-square-foot assembly plant for its proposed new generation of 120- and 130-seat jet airliners, an airport official said.

Bombardier officials confirmed Beaudoin's visit but declined further comment.

Bombardier is considering building a $375 million plant that would employ 2,100 people at peak capacity. Whether it moves forward with the plan depends on its success in obtaining orders for its proposed C Series aircraft, how much pressure Canada will bring to bear to keep the plant in that country and whether Missouri agrees to offer hefty tax credits for the project.

The Missouri Department of Economic Development has proposed an incentive package that would offer up to $40 million in tax credits annually for 22 years to attract Bombardier.
